St. Kitts Tours Historic Basseterre
Visit the historic streets of Basseterre, St Kitts largest town. Founded in 1625 as the first French town in the Caribbean, it became the British capital in 1727. It is located in a sheltered bay on the leeward side of the island. The oldest sections of Basseterre is French architecture while many other buildings incorporate elements of French and British colonial architecture. Visit “The Circus” downtown it is modeled after the Piccadilly Circus in London. Shops and restaurants are numerous around this roundabout with its center being “The Clock Tower”. Two notable churches downtown are the Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and St. George’s Anglican Church originally built in 1670.
